IAN ATHFIELD: NEW ZEALAND'S MOST ACCOMPLISHED ARCHITECT

The Architectural Designers NZ (ADNZ) Continuing Professional Development seminar series are on again - a guide through modernism, postmodernism and beyond.

PART ONE: Complementing her publication, Athfield Architects, senior lecturer in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland Julia Gatley, is delivering a nationwide tour - sharing her journey of discoveries as she documented the extraordinary architectural endeavours of Athfield Architects, and the influence they have had on strengthening community identities.

PART TWO: Using both historical and current projects, Jeremy Perrott & John Hardwick-Smith from Athfield Architects, will discuss being part of an evolving design tradition by giving an insight into the creation of inspirational spaces which are both relevant and empowering to its community.

Learnoing Outcomes:

• Understand the influence architecture can have on the identity of a community
• Gain knowledge of New Zealand's architectural history
• Gain knowledge of the influences Ian Athfield used as sources of inspiration; how he incorporated them into creating this own distinct design tradition and how this continues to evolve within the practice
