Our History

1937
Harold Dalton runs drafting service for builders in Auckland, launches Building Progress magazine.
1950
Russell Going founds Technitrades in Auckland, preparing building plans and specifications.
1966
Russell Going forms Federation of Draughtsmen (FAD). Membership is set at 10 guineas. Initial group comprises 10 members. Membership remains low through the 1970s and is Auckland-based, then grows steadily.
1977
New branches are formed in Northland, Bay of Plenty/Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki/ Wanganui/ Manawatu, Wellington, Canterbury/Westland and Otago.
1981
National body is formed. Graham Donald is elected first president. Annual meetings are held around the country and overseas.
1982
Name is changed from F.A.D to N.Z.F.A.D New Zealand Federation of Architectural Draughtsmen.
1992
First Executive Officer appointed part time, Wellington Based
1993
Name is changed to New Zealand Federation of Architectural Designers. Annual awards recognise talent of design professionals in multiple categories.
1996
Name changed to A.D.N.Z Architectural Designers of New Zealand.
1999
Fulltime Manager appointed with Christchurch as National  base.
2000
ADNZ National Office opened in Christchurch.
